Music Director Job Description

Position Overview: The Music Director at Westside Presbyterian Church plays a vital role in enhancing the worship experience by providing appropriate music selections and coordinating musical elements for each worship service. This position involves collaboration with the congregation, minister, volunteers, and other staff members to create a meaningful and engaging worship environment through music, while holding strong Christian principles.

Responsibilities:

1.     Music Selection and Preparation:

·       Select and arrange appropriate music in alignment with the scripture and theme of each worship service.

·       Research and curate music from various sources, including hymn books and online resources.

·       Create or adapt music arrangements to suit the congregation's vocal range and familiarity.

·       Provide timely delivery of lyrics to the church secretary for inclusion in the PowerPoint presentation.

·       Ensure additional copies of lyrics are available for singing leaders and facilitate accessibility for all congregation members.

2.     Coordination and Rehearsal:

·       Engage and coordinate musical volunteers to contribute their talents to worship services.

·       Rehearse with volunteers to ensure a high-quality musical performance.

·       Set up appropriate microphones for live streaming and ensure optimal sound quality.

3.     Event Planning and Special Programs:

·       Organize special music events and outreach activities, such as music clubs and Christmas carol sings.

·       Plan and facilitate rehearsals and performances for special occasions, such as Easter and Christmas services.

·       Provide necessary materials and support for events, ensuring accessibility for all participants.

4.     Administration and Communication:

·       Communicate regularly with the minister and worship committee to align music selections with service themes.

·       Maintain up-to-date licensing and reporting for music usage through CCLI (Christian Copyright Licensing International).

·       Procure or produce musical tracks as required for worship services and special events within allocated budgetary resources.

5.     Technical Support:

·       Assist with setup and testing of sound equipment before each service.

·       Coordinate with the tech director to ensure optimal sound balance for both in-person and online worship.

Qualifications:

·       Demonstrated proficiency in music selection, arrangement, and performance.

·       Strong organizational and communication skills.

·       Ability to collaborate effectively with volunteers and staff members.

·       Experience with sound equipment setup and operation preferred.

·       Commitment to the mission and values of Westside Presbyterian Church.

Working Hours and Compensation:

·       This position currently requires approximately 8-10 hours per week, with flexibility for additional hours during special events.
